Audi was the leader earlier this week saying they would not compete in LMP2 for the American LeMans series and now a shocker is the DHL Porsche RS Spyder team is not returning for 2009 as well. ALMS must be very nervous about their near future when the triple back to back champions are walking out of LMP2 in the American LeMans series. Rumors seem to be circulating that Porsche isn’t done for good with racing, they may just be hunting around to enter a new series. Could be interesting!

While the big three are busy fighting with Congress the guys at Audi USA are creating a super bowl commercial for Super Bowl XLIII. They did a commercial at Super Bowl XLIII with an Audi R8 and the Godfather if you remember which they claimed was the second most talked about commercial after the Super Bowl. Hope they are going to pack a good bunch, I will be tuning it for this and to see who is going to Disney World in 2009! Below is the press release sent out by Audi USA.
HERNDON, Va., Dec 10, 2008 – After tremendous consumer and critical reaction to its “The Godfather”-inspired ad in Super Bowl XLII, Audi of America today announced it has purchased a 60-second slot to advertise in the first quarter of Super Bowl XLIII.
Last year’s Super Bowl ad was the first in nearly 20 years for the company. The spot’s unique creative elements scored big points with viewers. According to Collective Intellect and Nielsen Buzz Metrics, Audi was the number two Super Bowl advertiser in total buzz after the game. In the months following the game, traffic to www.audiusa.com increased almost 200% and the Audi R8 became the top search term on Google immediately following the ad’s airing.
“Last year’s Super Bowl ad put old luxury on notice that Audi was setting the new standard in the American luxury market,” said Scott Keogh, chief marketing officer, Audi of America. “With this spot, we plan to build on the success we’ve enjoyed in 2008 to make 2009 a year of progress and market momentum for the Audi brand.”
Audi experienced a record year for sales in 2007. In 2008, despite the worst sales climate in nearly 25 years, Audi has increased market share against other imported luxury brands to 8.6%, up from 6.2% just 12 months ago.
Audi’s advertising agency, San Francisco-based Venables Bell & Partners, created the ad.
Although the video is an Audi short commercial it is still rather hilarious. In an amazing line of events this car gets taken hostage as the police are in pursuit of these criminals. Tune in to see how the Audi R8 winds up in the end.
According to this Audi press release that has come to the surface before the Detroit Auto Show the new Audi R8 is going to have the automotive industry shaking their heads in jealousy.
The R8 V10 is a 5.2-liter affair generating officially, 517 HP at a heady 8,000 RPM and 390 lb-ft of torque at 6,500 RPM. All that grunt serves to deliver a 0-to-62 MPH time of 3.9 seconds with a top speed of 196 MPH. But the engine isn’t the only place getting enhanced. More details and the press release below.
Suspension upgrades come in the form of magnetic ride control aimed at improving both ride and at the limit grip. It rides on new 19-inch ’10-spoke Y design’ wheels hiding 14.9 inch brakes up front 14.0 inches at the rear. The styling gets tweaked with a modified sideblades with bigger intakes in gloss clear finish over carbon fiber. The rear end gets a modified diffuser and oval exhaust tips, all designed to look pretty while it’s leaving you in the dust

Fast Lane Daily has never been guilty of being our favorite show on the Internet or even close but they did some interesting coverage of the Mercury Couger converted to an Audi R8 and the Porsche Panamera pictures. This video is almost 9 minutes long and provides about 30 seconds of interesting content but check it out anyways, because really, what better things do you have to do right now?
Although I have never been to heaven and I assume most of our readers haven’t either I have to admit that I am a huge fan of the Audi R8 and if I had one and lived in heaven this is about what I would imagine everyday would be like. This GT3-Spec Audi just rips apart this course as it screams around the track. Amazing production and quality from the Audi camp, they get an A+ for this piece.
Nissan and some of those other brands are running away from the Motor City Audi is driving in full force. They are bringing the new V10 Audi R8 to the show according to reports at Car and Driver. According to the reports the Audi will be packing a 5.2 liter V10 pumping out a 520hp and 398 lb.-ft of torque engine just behind the driver’s head. The Audi R8 will also bail on the quad exhaust in exchange for larger duals exhaust tips. Audi should be bringing out some new wheels, upgraded brakes and some minor interior tweeks for the car as well. We will have the full story soon once the Detroit Auto Show arrives!
