We tackled the third leg of the Targa Rally today which took everyone from Los Angeles to Santa Barbra. A great pack of cars and a timed/mile route lead to a great event. Sadly, our car broke down at the 50 mile mark of a 400 mile day trip like our Gumball 3000 trip earlier this year. We crammed our video guy in another car so he could Targa Scum it and produce us some great video. Our photographer stayed with me at Mt. Frazier as we waited 4 hours for Cadillac to come rescue us and get us in a loaner. It was of course an adventure so check out our trip inside.
For you Entourage fans on HBO who love Ferrari’s you will be in for a treat this weekend. Episode 2 which will be out this Sunday at 10:30pm will be featuring one of the main cast members driving one of the gorgeous Ferrari California’s. The car is powered by a V8 with 460hp and you might be shocked as to who will be driving it on the show this Sunday. This is the best piece I have seen Gumball 3000 produce from this 2009 rally to date. It really gives you a true feeling of the insanity going on during the seven days your on the road attempting to make it across the country. This is a must watch clip for any Gumball fans.
Elo and Jimmy Jean-Louis (Hero’s) took this Ultimate Aero SCC out of a museum and onto the streets of America. The world’s fastest production car flew across America this year with a few breakdowns but in the end it survived the trip!
Day 1 is now complete which was a fairly small leg of 250 miles. We started at the Santa Monica Pier and made a swing through Orange County for the D1GP event. After leaving Orange County it was a straight dash up I-15 to Las Vegas, Nevada. We have some great photos of the Brabus Mercedes SL, purple Audi R8, the Bugatti’s and much much more!
The Fuel Girls invade the Gumball 3000 rally and chat it up with David Hasselhoff. You can spot some gorgeous cars from the 2008 rally including a Gumpert Apollo, a bomber style Ferrari 360 Modena, and one tool’d out Jaguar. We are sure you have seen Nigo’s pink Bugatti Veyron and some of his other exciting creations but with the help of Mercedes he has another one. The car is a 1954 Mercedes-Benz 300SL which was treated with an engine swap and some AMG tuning. Of course to finish things off a nice BAPE exterior treatment.
American Idol judge Simon Cowell is known to have quite a car collection including a Bugatti Veyron! TMZ today spotted him in Beverly Hills talking to a cop in his gorgeous black Bentley. He needs to get some aftermarket wheels on this thing already and step it up!
The 2009 Australian Open champion was spotted with his Aston Martin DBS. Rafael Nadal beat Roger Federer in the Finals to win the Australian Open. This was Nadal’s third victory in a row against Federer and to celebrate it looks like he scored himself this DBS.
The Aston Martin is a V12 6.0L producing 510hp and while driving this thing around we are not sure how he makes it to tennis practice. I would get “lost” quite a lot to enjoy driving this sucker. Good to know the tennis star has some nice taste in cars.
A reader sent us this link providing more information than we have seen yet. http://www.nbcsandiego.com/news/local/Cops-Chase-Bentley-Through-LA.html. They confirm the driver was not DJ Kahled but a business man upset about losing his business. He has also passed away confirming to these reports.
UPDATE: As of 2:24am Pacific Standard Time
Several new developments have come forward through the night with this story. Mahalo and several other sites including a local Los Angeles news source started reporting DJ Kahled took his life in this Bentley chase. Now other reports are claiming the man is unidentified and NBC local news has gone so far to claim he isn’t dead. They are saying he is at St. Joseph’s hospital which is nearby the event location.
DJ Kahled’s Myspace Page even has an official press statement that he is alive and in Miami except it’s pre dated January 29th, 2009. Not sure if this was by accident in a rush to post or what but this makes me have some doubts on this. I screen caped his Myspace blog in case it gets taken down or altered in some fashion in the near future.
